Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association has been in existence since 1964. Through this period of time, we have enjoyed many successful
accomplishments. Our various teams have won many Western U.S. Regional
tournaments and the United States Nationals. Our trophy cases are
filled with Championship trophies from all over North America. Sno-King
currently has over 400 skaters ages 5-17 years old, competing at
various levels of play from mites to midgets. We have teams competing
in local and state leagues. Sno-King’s PeeWee, Bantam and
Midget A & B teams play in the Pacific Coast League throughout
Canada. Many Sno-King players have advanced to the Junior, College,
National Team and Professional ranks.
Our main fundraiser is our Bingo game, which operates 3 days a
week and has allowed us, with the help of volunteers, to build our
own ice arena. Kingsgate Arena is a converted grocery store, which
opened as a rink in January of 1991. Since that time we have hosted
many tournaments. We are very thrilled to have opened in November
of 2000 our new facility, Castle Ice Arena, which is located in
the Renton Highlands area and has opened many opportunities for
new families to get involved in the Greatest Sport on Earth.
Please note that the Sno-King Policies were significantly revised, expanded, updated, and adopted in mid-2006. The policies are binding rules that are followed by coaches, parents, players, and everyone involved with our association. If you have an issue and, after reading the policies, you are unsure of how one or more policies affect your situation, please contact the SKAHA office, and your question(s) will be forwarded to the appropriate person for an answer.

Volunteer
at Sno-King
Thank you for your interest in volunteering
for Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association (SKAHA). Sno-King was literally
built on volunteerism. Kingsgate Ice Arena is a testament to the
lasting gift past and current volunteers have provided this Association.
Each year volunteers donate their time and energy to provide sports
and life skills training for the kids we serve.
These volunteers represent all sectors of the community. They
are family and friends of athletes, student groups, business leaders,
and members of local civic organizations. But they all share our
vision, which is to “build players for life”. We want
to impart skills to kids so that they are in a position to understand
the consequences of a particular decision and be in a better position
to make positive life choices and be given the chance to become
useful and productive citizens.
Sno-King encourages volunteer participation on various levels.
Most volunteers begin their involvement with Sno-King as Coaches
or team managers. These volunteers help coordinate the administrative
tasks and duties with “running” a particular team or
program.
The next “level” of volunteerism is involved with
issues related to a particular age division. These jobs can include
Division Coordinator. This individual acts as a communication liaison
with the various team managers, ensuring that information (2 way
communication) is taking place between teams, teams and the overall
program, etc. The age group also has a Division Supervisor (usually
a Board Member) who represents the age group in Planning and Implementation
of programs for that age group. The supervisor may also be involved
in any disputes, which may arise within the age group.
Other volunteers choose to serve on a Committee. Committee members
spend three to five hours per week planning and organizing tournaments,
organizational finance, hockey programs, etc. with the support of
SKAHA professional staff. The President appoints members to a committee.
Still other volunteers choose to just give of their time (helping
at the office, creating this web site, being available as a mentor,
etc.). Whatever your interests as a volunteer we offer many opportunities,
and it is likely that we have one for you. Volunteering for Sno-King
has been a gratifying experience for many others who have already
shared with us their time and talents. We hope you will join them;
and whatever your volunteer role, we wish you many rewards.
