SKAHA will host the 16U A1 team next season and SJHA will be hosting the 14U A1 team next season. Players from both SKAHA and SJHA that wish to play on the highest-level team for their age group (A1) will want to try out for the appropriate team sponsored by the host organization. Sno-King players this current season that will qualify for play in the 14U program next year that wish to play on the 14U A1 team next season should plan on attending the tryouts for the SJHA 14U A1 team. The highest level 14U team at Sno-King next season will be 14U A2. SKAHA and SJHA have teamed together to create a pathway for the top players in the Washington area to play AAA hockey. This cooperative effort and support between these associations einsures the area’s top players will have the opportunity to compete at the highest level of competition and receive top tier, professional coaching.
Both the 16U A1 and the 14U A1 teams will offer spots and roster the very best players at the tryout. Roster sizes will be between 17-20 players. Tryouts are OPEN to any player who wishes to attend and are not restricted to SKAHA and SJHA members. The top players, regardless of association, are offered positions on the team. SKAHA will host the 16U AAA team and SJHA will host the 14U AAA team.
These joint teams have been developed to allow high level players to have a local option for elite play. The top local players can stay home to play, rather than having to leave home to find an appropriate level team. Families can stay together, players can attend their local schools, and families have the ability to watch their players. A local joint team significantly lowers the cost of elite level hockey.
Please plan to attend the parent meetings for both age groups. The meetings will provide an overview of the season and team expectations, timelines and potential tournaments, team fees and extra costs (such as tournament fees, travel expenses, required team gear, coach fees) and an opportunity to meet the head coaches for both teams. Both parent meetings will include a short question and answer session.
16UA1: Monday April 15, 6:30-7:00pm OVA
14UA1: Monday April 15, 7:15-7:45pm OVA
For those trying out for 14U A1, remember that full body checking begins at 14U for select-level teams. Be sure your player is prepared for on-ice body checking during the tryout. For current Sno-King players, please be aware that those offered spots on the 14U A1 team will register at SJHA, and become members of that association. At Sno-King, 14U A2 will be the highest level team offered for 2019-2020 at the 14U age group.
Players offered positions on either team should expect to make a major commitment to the team, with three on ice practices, 2-3 hours of dryland and fitness a week, frequent travel and multiple tournaments. Both teams are focused on player development with the goal of helping players move on to the next level. Players will receive maximum exposure at appropriate level tournaments and showcases.
