We hope that you are staying healthy during this unprecedented time of uncertainty. As we navigate through these uncharted waters we are diligently finalizing our plan for the 2020/2021 season. As part of that plan, Sno-King is very excited to announce coaches for two of our AAA programs for the upcoming season.

This season, we have added a 14U AAA team to compliment our highly successful 16U AAA team.

Players wishing to register to tryout for these respective teams can do so immediately. You can register by clicking here. Tryouts are currently scheduled for April 16-19. However given the current COVID-19 uncertainties those dates may need to be rescheduled to accommodate you. We will keep you informed as developments progress.

We are very fortunate to have two exceptional coaches for these teams that are committed to working with the players to help each of them reach their full potential: Mike Butters and Kris Wilson.  These coaches demonstrate a passion for teaching players while also demonstrating the high standards at Sno-King for character and for caring for the families that choose to be part of the Sno-King community.

16U AAA - Mike Butters

We are thrilled to have Mike Butters return for his fourth year behind the bench with the Jr. Thunderbirds. Butters guided the SnoKing 16U AAA team to another successful season in ’19-’20. Despite playing the majority of the season shorthanded due to injuries, the team made it to finals of the ECEL and Washington State tournament to earned a spot at the USA Hockey Pacific District tournament where they finished in third place. The team performed exceptionally well while capturing two championship banners in season tournaments and were runners up in two others.

This past season, the 16U AAA team had two players who played in games for junior hockey teams while with Sno-King. One with Lethbridge (WHL) and the other with Wenatchee (BCHL). In addition, seven players practiced with BCHL and USHL teams at various points during the season. In his 3 short years as the 16AAA coach at Sno-King, several of his players have advanced to both the junior and college ranks.

Mike is a former pro player and has played, coached, managed, scouted and led at every level including the NHL. Mike is also the US Director for Global Sports Camps and spends his summers at numerous showcases, where he both lectures and coaches. He and his wife, Katie, reside in Bothell. They have two daughters, Maddie and Margeaux. Maddie attends HBU in Houston on a beach volleyball scholarship and Margeaux recently committed to U Mass-Boston, where she will play hockey this fall for the Beacons. Margeaux started her hockey in Seattle, playing for Sno-King.

14U AAA – Kris Wilson

Sno-King is very pleased to have long time successful coach and current Sno-King skills development coach Kris Wilson commit to coaching the 14u A1 team. Kris has an impressive coaching resume and connects very well with players at all levels and ages.

Kris brings extensive experience playing and coaching as well as in leadership roles for youth hockey programs. He played junior hockey for the Surrey Eagles (BCHL) Jr. “A” team and then moved on to play at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He later played professionally in the Central Hockey League. During college Kris won several awards and his team played in the NCAA Division III Frozen Four in 4 consecutive seasons winning the national championship in 2001/2002 season. This will be his 15th season working with youth hockey players in the Seattle area.

In addition to our these AAA teams, we will continue to operate our highly successful developmental AA programs at the 18U, 16U & 14U levels. Detailed information regarding those programs will released very soon.

It is highly recommend that all players at the 16U & 14U levels register for these tryouts as it gives all players the opportunity to self-evaluate their skills and be seen by the coaches at all levels at SnoKing.

We invite you to share in our excitement and wish you the best while we navigate through the offseason together as a SnoKing family. Again, you can register by clicking here.
