Hello – We have some sad news to share. Please read a very heartfelt email below from Bill Stillwell, our 12U “C” coordinator, that he sent out to 12u families regarding Mike Guthrie, a Sno-King 12U coach. Our prayers are with the Guthrie family and friends. Please respect the family’s privacy but consider helping out as requested in the highlighted section below.

Hockey Families,

As some of you were aware, on March 8th, Coach Mike Guthrie had a severe stroke/brain bleed while at home. Shelley Guthrie immediately called 911, and got Mike to Overlake Hospital, where he has remained in critical condition since that day. Unfortunately, Mike is not going to recover, and I wanted to share with all of you the very tragic news that Mike will soon pass away.

Please take care in delivering this message to your children. The loss of a mentor like a coach can be very impactful at this age, and Coach Mike was a big part of their hockey life.

For those that didn’t know him, Mike was one of the best coaches at Sno-King. He was a great friend and mentor to the kids both on and off the ice. I’ve known him for a number of years now, and no one worked harder to build our program with me than he did. I think that was most evident with the success we had with the development program, as the two of us could spend hours debating and checking assumptions on what to do. He was such a calm and steady influence for the program, and his impact can’t be overstated. For me personally, Mike was everything good about Sno-King hockey, and a rudder through rough seas. I relied on Mike more than I think even he knew, and our program’s success is due to the large amount of work Mike put into it.

There will not be a funeral for Mike, but we’d like to plan to play a game in his honor once the current health crisis is resolved. Also, please consider supporting the family with a gift card for a local stores/restaurants or other options that can help Shelley, Mike’s mom Barbara, and his children Andrew and Mackenzie through this difficult time. Their address is 15624 278th Ave NE, Duvall WA 98019.

Local and online options in Duvall area to consider:

  • Duvall Tavern
  • Italia (italiaprimo.com)
  • Red Pepper Pizza
  • C.C.’s ice cream

  • Zazynia Mediterranean Grill
  • Family Grocer Duvall
  • Tokyo Teriyaki (Redmond Ridge)
  • QFC

Please consider helping the family through this tough time, and please remember him fondly. As a member of our hockey family, Mike put his entire heart and soul into building a great hockey program, and he impacted many of us in such a positive way. He will be missed.

Sincerely,

Bill
