Hockey Families,

Thank you for joining us Wednesday night at our most recent Sno-King Community virtual call.  With over 225 families in attendance, we hope you found the information valuable as our staff strives to keep families up to date on how we are working to navigate through this week’s most recent COVID-19 state guidance. We wanted to recap the information that was shared to ensure all members and players are aware of what we discussed.  We know many families are eager and excited to get back on the ice and we are doing everything we can to make that happen in the safest and most responsible manner.

The immediate update for all Sno-King families is that we will NOT be re-opening on Monday January 11th. We have however activated many preliminary steps to prepare rink readiness such as re-leveling the sand floor base as well as adjusting temperatures.

There are three important elements we are evaluating before we announce if we can re-open in Phase 1:

  1. More clarity regarding the interpretation of re-opening with practices only under Phase 1 guidance for indoor moderate risk sports
  2. Evaluating how we would manage potential Phase 1 to Phase 2 bi-weekly transitions should the new COVID-19 guidance metrics change over time
  3. Learning if masks required for all players while on the ice

While staff are preparing to put the ice back in our three facilities we are taking the necessary steps to ensure we can welcome everyone back without having to shut down again and incur high expenses of doing so.

Lastly, we also announced our intent to extend our youth hockey season to make up for lost time during this recent closure.  Nationally, USA Hockey has pushed the schedule out until end of Apr/early May, to give time to play and have a season, but not push too far into other sports. More details will be shared after we finalize our re-opening plan.

The earliest our Sno-King youth hockey teams could return to the ice is January 18th. This is entirely dependent on clarity of the above elements 1 and 2.

We plan to share another update mid next week.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Clayton Rodgers, Executive Director
