The 8U age division is for players that were born before January 1, 2011. In general, players that are 5 and 6 play in 8U Minor and kids that are 7and 8 play 8U Major. A final determination will be made by Sno-King staff.  Games are played in a cross-ice format and there is one game per week on the weekend. This format provides an excellent opportunity for age-appropriate skill development and is part of USA Hockey's ADM principles that our program is modeled after. The 8U age group is divided between Major and Minor divisions with the Major teams competing against teams from other youth programs in the MHL and the Minor teams competing in-house.  Age is the primary determinant as to whether a player is on a Major or Minor team. For information on a specific team click the appropriate link.

Sno-King: Season Registration Reminder

By Sno-King Staff 08/05/2020, 4:30pm PDT

Registration for the 2020/2021 hockey season at Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association for players participating in the 8U through 18U age groups is underway and we want to thank those that have already registered.  We wanted to remind everyone that registration opened to Non-Sno-King members on August 1st and that registration will close at the end of the day on August 15th.

Please register as soon as possible as it is a big help in our planning for the upcoming season to have players registered. Some of the age groups have seen great interest and will soon be within striking distance of reaching their maximums before a waiting list is started. To register you will need to have a SportsEngine account and have registered with USA Hockey for the 2020/2021.

If you wish to try out for one of the Select teams applicable to your age group (10U A, 12U A3, 14U A3,  or 18U A1) there is a place for you to register for those tryouts as part of the regular registration process. You have to register to tryout to be eligible to participate in the tryout process.

To be placed on a roster for a Sno-King team, you will need to register to become a member at Sno-King.

If you have any questions, please contact Andrew Birnbrich at

Thank you,

The Sno-King Staff

Congratulations to Kayla Kutes on her commitment to UMD Women's D1 Hockey Program. Kayla joined Sno-King when she was 9, playing for a co-ad house team at Sno King, the following season she made the boys rep team and kept playing with the AAA/AA boys team under Coach PIzzey the following seasons until high school. She liked playing for the boys’ teams because it was a faster and more physical game.

"Sno-King gave me a great opportunity to volunteer at Jamie’s summer camp where I got the chance to meet & work with Sno-Kings younger girls and see the growth of women hockey at Sno-King.

During the years I also was working with some of the best coaches that Washington has to offer, like Jamie Huscroft & Turner Stevenson, as well as Vaughan Rody & Mike Butters.

At Sno-King I was introduced to West-coast Prep camp and went there with some of my teammates for a couple of years. This camp gave me exposure to the world of academies and schools. I was then approached by the Okanagan Hockey Academy coaches when they offered me a position on their team.

I made the decision with the help of my parents & coaches to move to Canada and play for OHA. Playing for a Hockey academy increased my exposure to college coaches as well as other hockey academies.

During the off-season, I always keep training and practicing at any opportunity I get. I practice with higher-level players that push me to play more competitively. I participate in some of the college's showcase camps such as Rink Sport, Rush Hockey, and WCPC as well as USA National team tryouts/camps.

Playing at Sno-King gave me the development I needed to start playing at the academy level. Playing academy and at those showcases is what ultimately led to my commitment at UMD."
