Sno-King Update: May 1, 2020

By Sno-King Staff 05/01/2020, 5:00pm PDT

Hello Sno-King Families,

We hope you are staying healthy and well. For those that have had family or friends directly affected by COVID-19 we certainly wish speedy and full recoveries. We also want to recognize and thank our Sno-King families that are front line and essential workers who continue to support our community during these difficult times.

The Sno-King staff is looking forward to the day we get to welcome you all back to the arenas. We learned today that the Stay-at-Home order has been extended to May 31st and got visibility into the Washington phased approach for reopening businesses and modifying physical distance measures. While the specific timing and criteria still remains uncertain, we know many of you are wondering what the experience might look like when we return. We wanted to share that we have been busy building extensive procedures and guidelines to be ready when the government officials allow us to reopen.

Our staff is considering all options for how we can maintain physical distancing including how we enter and exit the rink, minimizing spectators/large groups and leveraging Live Barn, when to put on/take off equipment and how we can best support all skaters in this transition. We are also working to implement various new safety measures including cleaning, sanitizing and training staff to assist with safety protocol. Upon returning you can also expect to see many areas with fresh paint and deeply cleaned bleachers, lobby areas, locker rooms and restrooms to name a few. The safety and health of our Sno-King families and visitors to our facilities is and will be our top priority.

We also wanted to share that construction on the new Snoqualmie Ice Arena restarted this week and installation of the ice floor piping will commence in mid-May. While we have lost some time on the construction schedule we anticipate completion in August. We posted some recent pictures of the construction progress on our website.

The closure has impacted many spring programs such as Learn to Skate, Figure Skating, Hockey 1 & 2, 14U/16U A1 Tryouts, Camps and Clinics, High School Hockey and more. We appreciate your patience as we work through the impacts and communicate updates with those families affected. There are several resources available to support players and families to stay active and provide valuable mental training. Some helpful ideas to stay active at home include USA hockey Dryland training at home and USA hockey videos. We also encourage completing or reviewing the Mental Skills training modules focused on Teamwork, Mental Toughness, Grit and Visualization. (If you need help with your account please contact Andrew Birnbrich)

We know many are eager to get back on the ice and connect with friends and teammates in the hockey community. Thank you for your continued support and we will continue to share updates as new information becomes available. Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon.
